Thanks for the interest and helpful tips. I don't know the size of the box but it is a big honkin' box. A 186 was shipped in it. The box is plenty big enough for any size tuba. Just guessing I would say the box is 3'x3'x 5'. In addition to the tuba I also took out 3 big garbage bags of shipping peanuts and bubble wrap. I live in Kansas City MO for those of you who might be interested.
