Back in 1984 I actually whined my way out of a great Urban level orchestra because of this very thing. Principal Trombone was a musicologist and talked the conductor into doing it this way. I told the conductor he was wrong. I got my way. I didn't get a contract the following year. The Principal Tromnbone player's brother did. Let it go, I wish I had. Life is long, a bad reputation is forever.
