For the sake of it, here's an example of what Ravel had in mind for Bydlo. (Someone is selling this one on THAT site). It is a French 6 Valve tuba (tenor tuba, if you will) in C, one tone higher than a euphonium.

Re: the original post topic, take it gracefully, on the chin, "like a man", don't take it personally, nor make it a political issue.

As others have said, being branded as having an "attitude" can last wa-a-ay too long, and compromise whatever else you may do (or wish to do) artistically.
