I have owned a silver Kalison DS CC for about three years of college. I think I have outgrown it. It was great until I learned all the ticky details about it. Mine has intonation problems a-plenty, so it is a lot of work to play it. As a matter of fact, I was having tuning issues in quintet rehearsal today. The valves aren't smooth enough. There is a slight break between some important valve changes. It interferes with getting the next pitch just right. The main thing I'm getting sick of right now is the bright sound, especially in the middle register, say from G in the staff to E below the staff. The brightness keeps me from blending well, I think.

One thing though, I recently took some lessons from the local orchestra player here and he showed me some fundamental things to do with my playing that changed the way I sounded on the horn. My advice is this: don't change horns until you know the horn very well and know the way you play even better.

Good luck,
Jason Harrell
