Started on violin when I was 5 because my Dad really wanted me to play (he never had the chance). I studied violin for 10 years, enjoyed it too, and am still playing it today. But something happened in Grade 4; our school had a visit from the Canadian Brass. Ever since then I wanted to play the tuba, only problem was, my Dad had a fear I'd give up the violin, so "NO" to the tuba. Being German he perceived the tuba as just an oom-pah type instrument. Ended up doing euph in junior high (no tuba in the school). I didn't get my hands on a tuba until senior high, when the band teacher brought in a shiny new Yamaha YBB 641. There is something magic about playing an instrument you've always wanted to play, but didn't have, or weren't allowed to. I just clicked with the tuba. After high school I purchased my own 186-4U which I own and love to this day.
