Then, people may disagree with you, but they won't bust your chops. Everybody learns. There is much forgiveness for an ill-informed opinion, when stated with some humility.

But that isn't what you said. You said, "It should be 2 tubas." That doesn't look like on opinion, or sound like an opinion. It sounds like an authoritative fact, and by saying it, you are setting yourself up as an authority on the subject. If other authorities disagree, they will be compelled to call you on it to avoid a falsehood remaining in the archives unchallenged. Be prepared to back your authoritative statement up with primary sources and solid scholarship. You weren't so prepared, and you got your chops busted. Don't take it personally, but learn.
