Joe "Country" Washburn played with Ted Weems in the 20's and 30's. There are at least 3 reissued CDs on which you can hear him playing: "Marvelous," "Ted Weem's Greatest Hits," and "From Saturday Night 'Till Sunday Morning." I have to believe that the Weem's arrangments are the most inventive of any from that period AND make the best use of tuba of ANY band of that era. The cut "Miss Wonderful" on the "From Saturday Night..." CD displays this usage wonderfully and it is Washburn playing. He also did some vocals with the band (as did a number of guys in the group, that being the style of the era) and can be heard singing on another interesting cut from that album: "Remarkable Girl."

It was after his time with Weems that Washburn went on to join Spike Jones.

(An aside: The first full-time male vocalist with Weems was Perry Como.)
