I had played with the blue lake international adult band 2000. We was playing in a large church in Germany, and it was a very very live sound "echo chamber". So durring our warm up session, MR. Don Flickiger [conductor] gave me one of those "RAISED EYE BROW LOOKS" as the tuba section would get if we played out too much. So he commented that it was too much, and I could not play any softer, so I laid the reynold bell front tuba horizonal in my lap and rotated the bell up toward the high ceiling, the look in his face was so relieved that a big smile appeared. The tuba blended like the up bell horn and not so directional into the face of the conductor.
