I just saw San Francisco Symphony play Mahler 6, and I'm rather certain that the tubaist used a PT6. Regardless, you could sure hear him! - no problem. I've never met Craig Knox, so I don't know if it was him. From where I was sitting, it didn't look like Peter, but I'm not certain (does that make it a *Peter principal* on my part? - hee, hee).

But never mind that - you should have seen the giant, vertical wooden box that they constructed for the two hammerblows in the finale! The percussionist struck the top of it with a giant hammer, while standing back in the seats located behind the orchestra. The box had a big sound hole facing the audience. Unbelieveable!
