I won't argue against Thayers, but truly the large flat bearing surfaces causes a bit of a leak in them that, admittedly, doesn't seem to be much of a detriment. I HAVE played stuffy Thayer valve instruments, but most trombones on which I've installed those things seem to blow with less restriction...sometimes with less restriction on the F side than the Bb !!!
