Do you have a recital, competition, or audition coming up in the near future? Maybe he is trying to jump start your performance to a higher level. In my humble experience, I have found that you play twice as good in a practice room as you do in front of a critical jury. What is good enough in a practice room is seldom good enough in front of a live audience. I can always seem to nail that high F in the practice room but not in a performance. Why is that??
