I'm sorry your university teaching experience left you wanting, that is really too bad. I can sympathize with what you're saying about students because I deal with those same problems myself. My studio this year is particularly problematic and these kinds of years can make it hard to justify the time commitment involved. However, this year (just like most years) there is always one or two bright spots that seem to make it all worthwhile. In a way, it is very much like my symphony job. I play lots more badly programmed pops concerts than I get to play Mahler symphonies. But the really great programs do show up, just as the really great students do, and things always feel better then. I hope you can again find a rewarding situation for your teaching abilities.
