If you like the BAch-style mouthpieces, and the 12 just feels just too big, try an 18. Play it EXCLUSIVELY for 4-5 months before making a final determination. Also, something to think about, playing high just doens't miraculously heppen. I tell my students, "If you don't play up high, you can't play up high." Spend 20-30 minuets A DAY playing above the staff. Take any legato tuba study youi have, and play it up an octave. Do that every day, and I GUARANTEE, your high register will improve. A WORD OF CAUTION: Always (ALWAYS) follow a strenuous high note regime with low note playing. you COULD damage the delicate lip tissue, if you don't do some sort of ow note playing. Take that same etude you were playing, and play it DOWN an octave.
