This is not an affair to be entered into lightly. Doing it yourself for your own jollies and being willing to accept whatever disaster or miracle happens is one thing. But paying someone to do a top-notch sex-change operation can get to be a pricey affair.

If the same model of BBb has been cut before and you've had a chance to play the result and you like it, then you have to take a look at what's been done to get that result. Has a new valve section been added? Big bucks there. How about custom tubing work? As the complete instrument has to be taken to pieces and then reassembled with different parts, you're looking at the cost of a full overhaul and then a bunch.

If this is a BBb that is an unknown quantity as far as having it cut, the result can be perfectly awful and you're still out your money--and what might have been a very decent BBb is now an awful CC.

In any case, don't expect this to be a quick process. You're going to pay for lots of shop hours.

The best thing to do is to talk to a few of the crowd who does this type of work (Bob Rusk, San Gnagey, Matt Walters) and see what they think. Find out if they've ever done a BBb to CC conversion on your model instrument and what they thought of the result.
