Saturday night Tuba Virtuoso Pat Sheridan played his Hollywood Bowl debut at the closing concert of the 2001 Season. He was guest soloist with American Winds in a program to dedicated to John Phillip Sousa. He played to over 10,000
enthusiastic listeners including his parents and wife and baby. He began with Heifitz' arrangement of Czardas, faster than any violinist, then the beautiful Estralita and finishing with a polka. For his encore he came out and played Flight of the Bumblebee in a bumblebee costume (hey, it is Hollywood). Throughout his performance Pat cheered theaudience with his disarming humor. The conductor, Larry Curtis, introduced him as the world's greatest tuba soloist--and he sure showed that to all. Enormously confident, musical, accurate, technically unbelieveable with a gorgeous sound, Sheridan is a great artist and ambassador of the tuba.

On a side note Norm Pearson (from the LA Phil) was a guest 2nd tuba with principal John Van Houten.
