Here's one suggestion on getting back into playing:
If you live near a small community college,
see if the college has a symphonic band/winds program.
If a band/winds program exists, contact the director
and ask if they have a tuba that you you can use while enrolled in the class.
If it works out, they certainly win, getting a player to bolster the bassline;
and you win, because you get access to both a horn and an active playing situation.
