Play every horn you can before making your choice. I was in the same boat you are in just a year ago (Had not played since college.....11 years). I played about 30 differant horns during my hunt. Don't buy the first one you play because it will feel pretty good to you after all this time. Try cheep horns and try very good horns that may even be out of the range you want to spend. This will give you something to go on. Custom music is a good place to do this. They have Hirs. & PT's that are great and they have some old used conn and a cervany or two in the corner. Any place that has lots of horns to play will be a good start like Brasswind,Tuba store,Low brass works, Dave at B-Brass, etc.
