I talked to Bob Nagle about the Arnold having performed it with him. He had met Arnold and had talked to him about the New York Brass Quintet as a group. A few months later, Nagle received a bundle in the mail, opened it and there was the quintet. Although not dedicated to the New York Brass Quintet, Malcolm wrote it with them in mind. No commission was necessary. You rarely find that these days.
