That's probably the most imaginative -- and probably acceptable -- way I've seen here to get in a few notes. At the same time, I concur with Roger Lewis in his post below.
Additionally, I would offer that if you can't keep the horn warm or play a couple notes, at least keep the mouthpiece warm somehow. I took to keeping my mouthpiece in my pants pocket to keep it near body temperature until it came time to play. Yes, the horn cooled off a little, but never below room temperature, and it only took a few deep exhalations to heat up the majority of the smaller tubing.
But, the important thing was that I was putting my face on a warm mouthpiece, thus preserving all the warmup that I did beforehand.
