I agree it is expensive stuff. I imagine there must be generic stuff out there that will do the same thing. Remo has some nice classroom instruments out now too. I don't know how they compare pricewise. One nice thing with the "Orff-type" mallet percussion instruments is you can take bars off if you think the kids will hit the wrong ones. You can't easily do that with a Musser Xylophone!
