I have been working for 15 years in public school education, and you have hit the nail repeatedly in this post. Education is like police work and sausage making. The more you see, the less you end up loking the finished product.
I have found the most pleasure in seeing the former pupil years later make something of themselves, and credit their teachers for the leadership. It seems that people credit the education system for their successes less often today, even though they would be the first to blame the same system for the problems of the world.
For those of you out there whpo are quick to throw darts at teachers, be sure to remember that you are the product of a teacher's care and effort. For some of you, I'm glad I can say that I had nothing to do with you as a teacher. For others, you need to thank every teacher you had today.
