The girls were healthy and tall, but they were definitely not stocky in the weight-lifter sense. But then, I was anything but fit as a student and I carried a sousaphone. The girl carrying the bass drum was also healthy and tall, and qualified to be on the cover of magazines like, perhaps, Shape, but definitely not Muscle. I think it is a matter of efficiency.
But I now understand the attraction to drum corps.
