Yes, high school is too late. But if the parents don't read, and don't value reading, kindergarten is too late. I'd bet your parents read. I'd also bet that they set limits on television, not because they hate television but because it interfered with better stuff, like reading (and other things). If that isn't the case, then you have bucked the system.

Not everyone will be literary. If they are not, that's really fine. But if they study language, history, geography, and some mathematics, in addition to at least one medium of art, their education will serve them well enough to be good citizens. Wisdom they will get by being good citizens. "Good judgment comes from experience; experience comes from bad judgment."

More often, instead of professional English teaching, we get amateur philosphy teaching.
