I have an old York BBb helicon that I sometimes use for (dare I say it?) polka gigs. It plays easily and very much in tune. Sounds pretty much like a regular tuba. It's a small-bore (0.655) horn, and the low notes just pop right out. The nice part is that it balances on the body nicely, isn't subject to wind gusts and can be played with only the right hand, leaving the left hand unencumbered--and isn't nearly as heavy as a big sousie.
