Silver usually is more durable than gold so let that figure into your decision. I used to like gold plated mouthpieces (for the softer feel) but nowadays I use silver.

Send your mouthpiece to Anderson Plating. They are the best I've seen. They also have extensive experience replating mouthpieces and understand about not over-buffing the mouthpiece while preparing it for replating. They also plate with a thicker layer of metal and this seems to make the job last longer. I don't know how long they would take right now but they usually don't take more than a month. Good luck!
