Listen to what MG posted. I have heard quite a few young players, who were on a quite advanced level for their ages stumble through something "hard" from the repertoire. It is much more pleasing to listen to someone play something beautifully, then something difficult and not polished. It's also important to know your scales. Too many young players can't play their scales down cold.. all major and all forms of minor. I don't think that you have to play excerpts generally, as it's good to learn them with a qualified teacher. If you do, Meistersinger, hungarian march, and the ride are probably the most standard. If you polish a nice balanced audition, any school/teacher would be glad to have you.

Good Luck
