I had a 4 valve version of this, but it was in much worse shape. It was an OK player, but needed valve and other work, so it was hard to tell. In general these are supposed to be good playing tubas if you are looking for a BIG horn. $1100 for a 3 valve BAT in this condition is not a great bargain, but isn't unreasonable either. If you like the way it plays go for it. Just make sure that you don't detect any leaks and that the valves are in good condition. If you want a big tuba for a medium to large community band or similar group, this would be fine.
