Which brings to mind the story of the trumpet player who, on a bet, yelled "Get Down!" at the ultimate moment during the dance of one of the...um...thicker drill team ladies. At a football game, nobody would have noticed except the snickering adolescents in the trumpet section. But this was during a Spring program, when we were forced to provide accompaniment in the pit while the drill team displayed their "art," when such an outburst would be sudden enough to waken the audience and startle the performer.
The prize was $50, but it was comfiscated by the drill team teacher, who gave it to the band director as evidence of the dirty deed's malice aforethought, who returned it to the trumpet player amid general laughter.
