This is a service we perform quite often in my shop.

On satin finished instruments we use baking soda and a stiff bristle, wood handle platers brush. First wash any grease or oils from the area to be addressed. Dawn dish washing liquid works best. Dawn is one of the most popular of cleaners used in our industry and does a good job where light oils need to be removed. Wet the surface then the brush. Dab the brush in the baking soda and gently scrub the surface in a circular motion. In the end you just rinse it of with cold tap water and there you have it. Works great and is not expensive to perform.

Just a side note: We do use a few commercial solvents in our process to cut heavy grease but the above method should give very acceptable results.

Good luck,
