The brass passages in Bruckner's symphonies are truly majestic.
If you find Bruckner's symphonies too formulaic, check out his motets. Beautiful heartfelt music derived from intense religious fervor, with harmonic twists and turns that are at once surprising and inevitable.
There are some very fine transcriptions of the choral motets published for tuba-euph quartet, too. Very effective.
