different from trying to be a professional in any of the arts? You could take the original question and substitute "landscape painter", "novelist", "romantic poet", etc.
The plain answer is that a few people can make a living at it, they've got good business sense, talent, and work like the dickens. There's a much larger body of folks who can do this sort of work but don't have what it takes (determination, business sense, luck, whatever) to make it work as a full-time occupation.
