Try to find a very objective way of showing how much air the student is using and then work with the mouthpiece. The simplest way is to work with the feeling of air across the back of your hand. I like to blow without buzzing first to remind myself of how little effort it takes to move air over your hand, and then I work on my high range until the sensations of blowing air without buzzing and with buzzing are more or less equal. This will also do amazing things for tone. If done right, it's a shock to go back to the instrument and hear the improvement.

Another surprisingly effective method is to use a pinwheel with the mouthpiece. Play on the same note until you can spin the pinwheel as easily as with a puff of air. Very effective and easy.
