..Solo PPP IS louder than a normal ppp. It is more like a solid pp to p in the CONTEXT of the orchestra. It is within CONTEXT of the music that determines how loud or soft the dynamic really is. Look at Tchaikovsky's music. It ranges from ppppp to fffff. Those dynamics are used in CONTEXT with the music.
