Prokofiev 6th was on the Boston audition in 1965. Leinsdorf had performed and recorded with the BSO and it's challenges for the tuba were fresh in his mind. But the 6th is rarely played (unfortunately). Prokofiev 5th is equally suitable for auditions. Since Fountains seems to have become an audition staple, the Grofe Thunderstorm would be redundant.
