I heard a student play "In The 90%" by Jay Rozen. This was at a college entrance audition, and the student was Mark McMahon. He had a really great rhythmic drive, and a nice instant focus to his sound. The solo is a catchy minimalist tune with some lyric high register sections, a ton of flexibility, and driving rhythm. (Think Kenyon Wilson's Dance for Tuba/Euph Quartet, on steroids.)

Years before that I had heard Sam Pilafian play a Travelin' Light recital, and Pat Sheridan do Czardas with a service band. Both of those shows were in such big venues that I didn't get as excited a hearing "In The 90%" from about ten feet away.
Up close and in yer' face . . . the way all good brass music should be :)
