Flew BA recently without my instrument. Anything over 32 kilos is considered excess(I think) I was glad I wasn't playing on this trip, as the London Airports and a couple in Italy seemed like a big pain in the rear to negotiate with a case that large. I know this isn't EXACTLY what you were after, but I hope it helps.
