These are pretty good horns. Recently we discovered that the 3rd valve tuning slides were too loong and sent several sets to Holton to have them "adjusted". They hae since re-designed the whole instrument to incorporate this change into the horn as they discovered that it was not an isolated issue.
All the piston valves are vented allowing you to pull slides whenever necessary, though with the recent correction there is little need for this once you have the horn set-up for the way you play. It's a compact horn, measuring only about 32" in height but with a good bell flare and a 19" to 20" bell.
It's a great quintet horn and can handle a fair amount of all-around work as well. The bore is conservative at .687", dual bore with American tapers. They play with a very smooth feel.
