Tuba players should be glad to even play in dvorak's 9th.. or 5th depending on what numbering system is being used. According to a popular true story.. i think it was phildephia actually. Antonin Dvorak was listening to a rehearsal. He never scored the "new world" for tuba... but being as all tuba players are in orchestra-that is note hungry, the tuba player in the orchestra decided to double the bass trombone part for lack of a better reason than to just play something. Well the conductor couldn't hear the tuba playing but Dvorak did.. He stopped the reahearsal went to the orchestra and said something to the nature of i like that! That's the real story behind the inclusion of the tuba into dvorak 9
