I recently bought a King sousaphone that is quite different from the normal 1250 model. The tuning slide on a King sousa is normally before the valve section, but on this one it is after the valves like on a Conn. The bell is 28" across, but the bell receiver is 6 1/4" and the body looks the same size as a regular model 1250. I cant find my calipers, but the bore looks like the standard .697. The serial # is 93,000 something, putting this horn I guess around 1927. It sounds great and looks impressive with that huge bell, but what is it? Is it pre-1250?
