Do not underestimate the value of all-wheel drive on real pavement. There's a reason that Audi Quattro is so popular--and it ain't winter driving. You do get rain in Alabama. But the advantage is only apparent when you have power--hence the recommendation for the VDC and the new Subaru Six.

That six, by the way, is a nicely designed boxer, with about 230 horsepower and reasonable torque for its displacement. That engine has nothing to be ashamed of, even compared to the most impressive 3-liter V-6 in my Infiniti. And they don't put the spare tire on top of the pancake block anymore.

And regarding your assertion that all-wheel drive is only needed on snow by the underqualified, I say you come when it's snowing and I'll pick the hill. Next year's TUSAB conference might provide the opportunity, heh, heh.
