Time, my friend, time.

Most method books will include exercises and daily routine bits which
take you down to the low E. Play (or try to play) them every day. moving chromatic figures...lip slurs...scales...everything. Little by little you will find the bottom of your range become easier, more secure, better tone.

When that happens...extend the same exercises down a tad.

Continue.

For me, at present I can hallucinate reasonable performance on the D an octave+ below the staff. But, my regular repertoire (community band) doesn't call for anything lower than the F. There's one piece with several nasty G's (exposed, soft) that used to scare me - now they only scare the audience.

Time to find and etude or three to stretch the range...as soon as I finish working up "Stuff" (which doesn't go that low...but is challenging enough for me anyway!)
