I recently purchased a 20 year old Boosey & Hawkes Imperial BBb 4pv comp (3+1). The horn was just serviced and is in fine playing condition. I just wanted to say that this horn is a beauty. It has a large, beauthiful full sound and the bottom end really rocks! I am surprised at the response and projection of this Tuba. I have been playing a Besson Soverighn 981 for the last 15 years (love it) and thought I'd like to find a BBb model by the same manufacture. I read through the archives and didn't find a lot of info on these horns so I just wanted to post this note to say that these horns are really worth a try if you can find one in good shape. I must say that they are on the LARGE side so I am using a K&M tuba playing stand (with a trombone mouthpiece fit into the top to receive the ball on the bottom of the tuba) which makes playing this horn easy. Does anyone have any experience with this vintage of B&H? I'd like your commemts.
