I have played these false tones with great ease on an older Rudy Meinl 5/4 tuba that suppossedly had a .910 bore, but I think it was really .866. On the other hand, some of the Bach tubas, basically a Olds 0-99, I had a very hard time with this note without an extremely large mouthpiece. I think that false tones are more emphasized by the first branch, bottom bow and bell. Horns with a larger proportion on these three areas in respect to the bore seem to project this group of tones the best.
