The problem with most of the BERPS that I've seen is that the end is not an open tube. The end is closed with just a couple of small holes to let the air out. This tends to create too much resistance while buzzing. One of my students built one that simply holds the mouthpiece in place next to the tuba's receiver without blocking the end of the mouthpiece at all. Another option is to simply remove the main tuning slide and buzz through the horn's open tubing!
