I can't hardly do all that you say, but I agree with you that we SHOULD be able to.
I think a lot more is made of the difficulty of playing in various clefs and transpositions etc, than is really there. Pianists routinely play in bass and treble at the same time, and I refuse to believe they're any smarter than we are. (I can get away with saying that because my pianist wife is out of town!)
Cellists jump from bass to tenor to treble, etc.
I think we have a tendency to not trust in our native abilities to adapt, but we can do it!
