I played a brand new BBb Marzan in college (1969-73). Loved it. Wish I still had it, but the school owned it. The open D was flat, but I thought that harmonic was always flat. We knew we had to push in the left hand tuning slide all the way in. We used small rubber bands (like used for orthodonics) around the tuning slide so that in did not clank as we pushed it in. The linkages were string, which was a pain, but quiet. I would buy one.

When I was at Tuba Exchange several weeks ago, Vince had two Marzans. One was in rather poor shape (at least the finish), The other had the valves modified. I do not remember what key. Vince was surprised to see I brought a Marzan mouthpiece with me. Funny though, in addition the the shorted leadpipe, I discovered that the mouthpiece is also shorter than ones sold today.
