Besides Mark's wonderful advice I would also make sure that my bumpers were in good condition and I would place a few drops of a heavier oil such as tuning slide grease(I like space filler) on all the moving parts of the linkage.
I've never had problems with noisy valves once I've lubed the rotors, end bearings, and linkage and replaced bad bumpers.
