John, I'd be very interested to see what you've done.
My particular problem is retrofitting a tuba that might be considered a "collector's item". Making irreversible changes (modifying things to use uniball joints) is not really an option; I need to be able to replace the original mechanicals if need be.
I'd considered carving my own mechanism out of raw stock myself. Guess that's what I may be best off doing.
