Yes. I saved Chuck Jackson's email on this topic (making an upright bell fro a Conn 20 J or 24J) from July of 1994:...start with a Cerveny Kaiser bell..
you have to have a repair man order the flange from Allied. The flange works
the same as it does on the bell-front, it helps mate the bell with the horn. I
cut my bell with a pair of aluminum shears to exactly 161/8" and fit the
collar on it soldered it up and played it on a jopb that night. It took 1/2 to
complete. Not bad and it works well.
The length needed to bring the Conn 20J down to pitch is 16&1/8 inches from
the edge of the bell down. This also where the correct diameter of the Cerveny
bell is to accept the bell flange that fints in the bell reciever on the main
bell stack of the 20J.As the Cerveny bell is considerably longer than the
needed length one must cut away the metal and attach the bell flange from a
20J to the cut end so it will mate up with the horn.
