It depends if it is a slide you want to move easily, like a first valve slide, or if it is a slide you want to stay put, like your main tuning slide. I have used many things in the past on slides that should stay put (yet obviously not stick when you want to move them) Selmer makes a slide lubricant which is a red gel that comes in a small bottle. I keep a tube of white axle grease at school (believe it or not this works great!), also vaseline works( although it doesn't last very long). If it is a slide that your want to move fairly easily, something thinner like STP oil treatment works well. The key is just put a little on the bottom inch of the slide. Don't cover the entire slide. If you do cover the entire slide you will get the excess build up at the end of the outer slide tube. And if you do just wipe it off. No problems. ken k
